Adams andCursor rules.
Cursor rules tell an editor agent how to behave. Adams adds checks that run in Claude Code and Copilot CLI. They solve different parts of the problem.

// what Cursor rules offers
What it does
Fact we checkedProject rules live in .cursor/rules as .mdc files and are version controlled.
Fact we checkedA rule can always apply, apply when the agent decides, apply to matching files, or apply when you mention it.
Fact we checkedCursor also reads AGENTS.md files, including nested ones in subfolders.
Fact we checkedUser rules apply across projects. Team rules need a Team or Enterprise plan and can be enforced.
Fact we checkedPer Cursor documentation, rules affect the agent chat and do not affect Cursor Tab.
Where it is the better pickIf you work inside the Cursor editor, rules are the native way to steer its agent, and the file based modes (always, by file pattern, on request) give fine control over when a rule loads. Team rules let an organisation enforce shared guidance across every project. Adams does not run inside Cursor.

Using bothThey do not conflict. If you use Cursor for some work and Claude Code or Copilot CLI for other work, keep Cursor rules for the editor and install Adams for the terminal sessions. Standing guidance you want in both places can live in an AGENTS.md file.

Questions
Is Adams a replacement for Cursor?
No. Cursor is an editor. Adams is built for Claude Code and Copilot CLI, and Pro also shares its rules and checks with Cursor.
Do Cursor rules enforce anything?
Rules are instructions given to the agent. Team rules can be enforced in the sense that members cannot turn them off.
Which is better for secrets?
A rule can tell an agent to keep keys out of code. Adams adds a check that blocks the commit when one slips through.
Are these facts current?
They were read from public documentation in October 2026. Check the vendor pages for later changes.
